Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali has been stand-released and attached to the Ministry of Public Administration following an alleged breach of protocol while greeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The incident reportedly took place at Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi on Tuesday evening, October 20, when the prime minister was preparing to leave for Chattogram after completing his visit to the district.

Before boarding a military aircraft, Tarique Rahman shook hands with political leaders and administrative officials present at the airport.

After shaking hands with the prime minister, Yusuf Ali allegedly leaned forward and attempted to embrace him, violating the established protocol.

The divisional commissioner was subsequently transferred to the Ministry of Public Administration under an order signed by Deputy Secretary Jeti Pru on Tuesday.

Yusuf Ali had been serving as the divisional commissioner of Rajshahi with the rank of additional secretary.

Following his departure, Additional Divisional Commissioner Rezaul Alam Sarker was assigned responsibility as acting divisional commissioner.

The prime minister visited Rangpur and Rajshahi as part of his programme to inspect Durga Puja venues outside Dhaka during the Sharadiya festival. He later departed Rajshahi for Chattogram.

However, the transfer order did not explicitly state the reason for the administrative decision, and the reported link between the incident and his removal has not been officially confirmed.
