3 more die of dengue, 580 new cases reported

Three more people have died from dengue in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 580 new infections were recorded, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest figures were released in a press statement issued by the DGHS on Monday afternoon.

According to the statement, the three deaths occurred in the 24-hour period ending at 8:00am on Monday.

Of the 580 newly hospitalised dengue patients, 125 were reported from Dhaka Division outside the two city corporations, 81 from Barishal Division, 79 from Chattogram Division, 78 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 67 from Khulna Division, 59 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 36 from Rajshahi Division, 31 from Rangpur Division and 2 from Sylhet Division.

With the latest fatalities, the nationwide dengue death toll has risen to 56 so far this year.

The DGHS data also showed that 16,684 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country since January.

Currently, 1,281 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals nationwide, while 15,344 patients have recovered and been discharged during the same period.

Health authorities have urged people to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to eliminate mosquito breeding sites as dengue cases continue to be reported across the country.
