Measles-like symptoms kill 7 more children

DHAKA: Seven children died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,273 new suspected and confirmed measles cases were reported during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in its regular measles report on Sunday (October 11).

According to the report, one child died with measles-like symptoms each in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Rangpur divisions, while three died in Sylhet division.

Since March 15, the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms has risen to 1,162, including 104 confirmed measles deaths and 1,058 deaths involving measles-like symptoms, according to the DGHS.

The report said 1,180 people showed measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of suspected cases to 205,028.

In addition, 93 confirmed measles cases were reported during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 22,421 since March 15.

Since that date, 182,047 patients suspected of having measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 174,469 have recovered and returned home.
