Prime Minister and chief patron of “Amra BNP Paribar” Tarique Rahman has built a new home for Golapi Begum, a destitute woman who had been living on a footpath in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area.

The keys to the new house will be handed over to her on Friday at a ceremony in Ratanpur village under Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.

According to a press release issued by the organisation on Thursday, the key handover ceremony will begin at 10:30am. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister and adviser to “Amra BNP Paribar” M Rashiduzzaman Millat will hand over the keys on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Local MP, leaders of Brahmanbaria district BNP and members of “Amra BNP Paribar” are expected to attend the programme.

The organisation said Golapi’s plight came to Tarique Rahman’s attention while she was living on a footpath in Shahbagh. He later directed that steps be taken for her rehabilitation, according to earlier reports.
