Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Khandakar M. Moniruzzaman has been appointed as an Assistant Attorney General under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

The appointment was made through a gazette notification issued by the Solicitor Wing of the ministry, which also announced the appointments of 86 Deputy Attorney Generals and 179 Assistant Attorney Generals after revoking previous appointment orders.

The notification said the appointments were made by order of the President under Article 3(1) of the Bangladesh Law Officers Order, 1972 (President’s Order No. 6 of 1972).

Moniruzzaman, a native of Mirzaganj upazila in Patuakhali district, is the son of the late Abdul Kader Khandakar. Local residents say he is the first person from the upazila to be appointed as an Assistant Attorney General.

He obtained his BSS (Honours) and MSS degrees from the University of Dhaka before earning LL.B. and LL.M. degrees with first-class results. He has been practising regularly at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Apart from his legal practice, Moniruzzaman is involved in several social and professional organisations. He serves as Vice-President of the Patuakhali District Association in Keraniganj, Vice-President of the Mirzaganj Upazila Welfare Association in Dhaka, and Legal Adviser to the online news portal Dainik Sangbad Bangladesh. He also previously served as Member Secretary of the Mirzaganj Upazila Lawyers’ Association (Dhaka).
