The police headquarters has warned against the spread of false, misleading, provocative and malicious information on social media targeting senior police officials and other key government figures.
In a message issued on Friday, the police said a group had been deliberately spreading such content on Facebook and other social media platforms.
The police said the campaign was apparently aimed at creating confusion among the public, destabilising law and order, undermining the morale of the police force and tarnishing the government’s image.
The authorities urged people not to believe, share or circulate such misleading or provocative content and called for responsible behaviour to help curb rumours and disinformation.
The police headquarters also warned that legal action would be taken against those who continue such propaganda.
