Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have seized counterfeit foreign currency and equipment used for producing fake notes during a raid in Chapainawabganj town, detaining two individuals allegedly involved in the operation.
The operation was conducted on Saturday (August 8) between 10:00pm and 12:30am at a house in the Balubagan area. Acting on intelligence, RAB-5 personnel raided the second floor of the building, where an illegal counterfeit currency operation was reportedly being run.
RAB officials said the main suspect, identified as Khan Saheb, could not be arrested during the operation as he is believed to have fled before the raid.
During the operation, law enforcers recovered bundles of counterfeit currency, including 23 bundles of Tk500 notes and two bundles of Tk200 notes.
They also seized a wide range of materials used in producing fake money, including two reams of foreign thread, 18 printing plates, a sack of paper, a drum filled with chemicals, a laptop, a heater, a CPU, five rubber stamps, containers of ink, and two printers.
The two detainees were identified as Tosikul Islam, son of Munirul Islam from Chowdhuripara in Monaksha union under Shibganj upazila, and Shamim Ali (32), son of Saidur Rahman from Mondikhore village in Rasulpur union under Niamatpur upazila in Naogaon.
ASP Iftekhar Hossain Mahmud, Company Commander (CPC-1) of RAB-5 in Chapainawabganj, said legal action would be taken against the detainees after completing necessary procedures. He added that further details could not be disclosed at this stage in the interest of the ongoing investigation.
