A nationwide special joint operation will be launched to recover government firearms looted from police stations and other government installations during the July 2024 mass uprising, with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) serving as the lead coordinating agency.

RAB’s Media Wing announced the decision in a statement issued from its headquarters on Tuesday, urging the public to provide information that could help locate and recover the missing weapons.

The force also announced rewards for information leading to their recovery, although details of the rewards were not disclosed.

People with information about the missing firearms have been asked to contact RAB at 01777711441, 01777711442, 01777711443, 01777711444 or 0255669999.

The hotlines are also available through IMO, WhatsApp, Telegram and Viber, according to the statement.

According to media reports, 5,763 firearms were looted or went missing from police stations and other government facilities on August 5, 2024, amid widespread unrest following the fall of the Awami League government.

Of these, more than 4,426 firearms have since been recovered, while at least 1,337 remain untraced as of December 2025. Most of the missing weapons are small firearms, including pistols and revolvers.

Authorities hope the renewed joint operation, backed by public cooperation, will help recover the remaining weapons and strengthen public security.
