A 26-year-old former car salesman, Clément Vandenkerckhove, has officially become a Belgian prince after Prince Laurent, younger brother of King Philippe, legally recognised him as his son.
The recognition followed a DNA test reportedly showing a 99.5% match.
Vandenkerckhove, the son of Belgian singer Wendy Van Wanten, discovered his royal lineage at the age of 16.
Although he is now entitled to the title of Prince of Belgium and inheritance rights, he will not receive a royal allowance, perform official duties or have any claim to the throne.
