The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning over allegations of irregularities, corruption and acquisition of illegal assets.
He has been asked to appear at the ACC headquarters at 12:30pm on September 14 to provide his statement.
ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed to bdnews24.com on Sunday that a notice had been sent to Shafiuddin.
According to the notice, the ACC has received allegations that Shafiuddin acquired illegal assets through various irregularities and corrupt practices.
The ACC has formed a two-member team to investigate the allegations, with Director Md Abul Hasnat as team leader and Deputy Director Mozammil Hossain as a member.
The notice said Shafiuddin’s statement was considered necessary for a fair investigation. He has been asked to appear at the ACC headquarters with a photocopy of his national identity card.
According to the notice, the ACC began investigating the allegations against Shafiuddin on December 14, 2025.
An ACC senior official told bdnews24.com that the allegations are still at the inquiry stage. After completing the investigation, the team will submit a report to the commission. If evidence supports the allegations, the commission may decide to file a case; otherwise, the inquiry may be closed.
Shafiuddin assumed office as chief of the Bangladesh Army on June 24, 2021, succeeding General Aziz Ahmed. He retired on June 23, 2024, after serving as army chief for three years. During his tenure, he also served as president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association.
Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, the ACC has launched several investigations into allegations of illegal assets, money laundering and abuse of power against former military and security officials. Cases have also been filed against some of them.
