Police have arrested four alleged members of the “Nabi Group” in Rupganj, Narayanganj, following an armed clash between two rival groups reportedly linked to a dispute over control of the local drug trade.

The arrests were made during a special operation in the Tarabo Bazar area on Friday evening. Police also recovered a foreign-made pistol loaded with ammunition from the suspects.

The arrested men were identified as Nazmul Hossain, 30, Nihal Mia, 21, Sazzad Hossain, 20, and Shafiqul Islam, 24.

Newly appointed Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Habibur Rahman disclosed the details at a press briefing at Rupganj Police Station around 8:45pm.

According to the SP, a long-running rivalry has existed between the group led by Srabon, also known as “Kutta Srabon,” and the Nabi Group over dominance in the drug trade in the Tarabo Bazar area.

He said members of the two groups have repeatedly staged armed displays, engaged in chases and counter-chases, and clashed with each other, creating fear among local residents.

The two groups reportedly engaged in another armed confrontation late Thursday night.

Following the incident, police launched a special operation in Tarabo Bazar on Friday evening and arrested four alleged members of the Nabi Group along with the loaded pistol, the SP said.

A case has been filed against the arrested individuals under the Arms Act with Rupganj Police Station. They are scheduled to be produced before a court on Saturday.
