A private clinic in Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj has been sealed and its owner fined Tk1 lakh following allegations of medical negligence in the death of a woman during a caesarean section.
The action was taken by a mobile court led by Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Rezwana Nahid on Monday (7 September).
According to the mobile court, Shilpi Begum, wife of Iyar Ali from Satgachhia village, underwent a C-section at New Garib Shah Clinic and Diagnostic Centre in Barobazar on Sunday morning. She reportedly died in the operating theatre, while doctors successfully delivered the baby alive.
The woman’s relatives accused the clinic authorities and doctors of negligence and wrong treatment, triggering concern across the upazila.
After learning about the incident, UNO Rezwana Nahid visited the deceased woman’s newborn at its maternal grandfather’s home on Monday.
She later said a mobile court conducted an inspection of the clinic, sealed the facility and collected a Tk1 lakh fine from its owner.
