A legal notice has been served on the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), seeking necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted mobile network and call services at metro rail stations and on running trains in Dhaka.
H M Rashidul Islam Rashed, general secretary of the BUBT Lawyers’ Association (BULA), served the notice on Wednesday in the public interest.
Lawyer Rashed Zaman said the notice, addressed to the managing director of DMTCL, also called for Grameenphone, Banglalink and Robi Axiata to be allowed to install mobile network infrastructure and provided with necessary infrastructural facilities within metro rail areas.
The notice said around four lakh passengers use the metro rail every day. However, weak or unavailable network coverage at stations and inside running trains prevents passengers from making emergency calls or causes calls to drop, resulting in significant inconvenience.
The notice requested DMTCL to take necessary measures within 15 days and inform the notice sender in writing.
It warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would lead to further legal action, including filing a writ petition before the High Court in the public interest.
