Prosecution seeks death penalty for Inu

The prosecution has appealed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking to enhance the 10-year prison sentence handed down to Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President and former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu to the death penalty.

The appeal was filed on Monday (October 5) at the relevant branch of the Appellate Division.

International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed the matter.

The prosecution argued that the 10-year sentence is inadequate considering the nature and gravity of the offences proven against Inu. It therefore sought the maximum punishment of death.

Earlier, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Inu to 10 years in prison in a crimes against humanity case over offences committed during the July-August mass uprising. The prosecution has now appealed against the sentence, seeking its enhancement to the death penalty.
