Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has detained 84 people, including 26 women, during an anti-narcotics raid on a house rented out by Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdullah Al Zahir in the capital’s Police Housing-1 area under Vatara Police Station.

The raid began on Monday night and continued until Tuesday afternoon, following intelligence reports of DJ parties and alleged drug consumption and trafficking at the three-storey house.

DB Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the operation, saying the house had been rented out through Airbnb. An Afghan national was among those detained.

Police said they seized cannabis, yaba tablets, alcohol and equipment used for yaba consumption during the operation.

Mahbubul Alam, who reportedly managed the property as a co-host, was also detained.

Authorities said legal action would be taken against those detained. Following the incident, Additional DIG Abdullah Al Zahir was withdrawn from his current assignment and attached to Police Headquarters, according to a separate order issued on Tuesday.
