The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is conducting an anti-drug operation at a house owned by a police Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the capital’s Bhatara area.

The raid began on Monday night, October 19, and continued until Tuesday afternoon.

According to DB sources, DJ parties and drug gatherings had been taking place at the house. Police detained 84 people during the operation, including 26 women.

DMP Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Shafiqul Islam told Kalbela that the police official had rented out the house, where drug use and illegal DJ parties had allegedly been going on for a long time. The raid was conducted in response to these activities, he said.

An investigation found that the house belongs to Additional DIG Abdullah Al Zahir, who works in the Maintenance and Repair branch at the Police Headquarters.

Several attempts were made to contact Zahir by phone to seek his comment on the DB operation over allegations of drug-related activities at his house, but he did not answer the calls.
