Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: A total of 154,758 Myanmar nationals are legally employed in Malaysia, according to statistics from the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) as of September 30 this year. They hold active Temporary Employment Passes (PLKS), placing Myanmar fourth among the source countries of foreign workers holding valid work permits in the country.
According to the Immigration Department, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), Malaysia had 2,079,859 active foreign workers holding valid PLKS permits as of September 30. Myanmar nationals accounted for 7.44 per cent of the total.
The Malaysian government is strengthening oversight of foreign worker management, focusing on registration, compliance with work permit conditions and enforcement of immigration laws.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stressed that foreign workers holding valid work permits must be distinguished from individuals who violate immigration regulations.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said accurate registration of foreign workers and their permit details, along with monitoring compliance with the conditions of employment, are essential to maintaining an orderly immigration management system.
To achieve this, the Immigration Department is placing greater emphasis on data-driven monitoring, ensuring compliance with the law and conducting targeted enforcement operations. These efforts cover both the management of records for legally employed foreign workers and the monitoring of immigration violations.
The ministry said the MADANI government’s commitment to ensuring orderly, transparent and integrity-driven management of foreign workers would continue.
The initiative aims to safeguard national security while protecting the well-being of Malaysian citizens.
