All officials and employees of the Kashimpur Union Land Office in Gazipur, including the tahsildar, have been temporarily suspended over allegations of irregularities, following a surprise inspection by the district administration.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Kabir Bhuiyan announced the action after visiting the Kashimpur and another union land office on Monday morning, where service seekers lodged multiple complaints regarding corruption and misconduct.
During the inspection, the deputy commissioner ordered the temporary suspension of Tahsildar Wazed Ali Khan and three other officials after finding evidence supporting the allegations.
The deputy commissioner said the inspection was conducted along with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), the Upazila Land Officer and other relevant officials.
After reviewing office operations and speaking with members of the public, the administration found sufficient evidence of irregularities to suspend all officials and staff at the Kashimpur Land Office pending further action.
However, the district administration clarified that reports circulating on social media claiming that all land office officials across Gazipur district had been suspended are false and misleading.
According to district administration sources, the Kashimpur Land Office had long faced allegations of bribery, irregularities, negligence in duty and harassment of service seekers in connection with land mutation, land development tax collection, record correction and other public services.
Officials said the disciplinary action reflects the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption and its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public services.
The administration has also initiated steps to appoint replacement officials to keep services at the Kashimpur Land Office operational and prevent disruption for the public.
Local residents welcomed the move, saying they had long suffered from demands for illegal payments, the influence of brokers and excessive delays in processing land-related files.
Many said previous complaints had gone unresolved and expressed hope that the latest action would lead to lasting improvements in land services.
A senior district administration official said departmental proceedings against the suspended officials are underway. If further irregularities are uncovered during the investigation, additional legal action will be taken.
Authorities also said monitoring of other land offices across the district has been strengthened to prevent corruption and harassment.
