The High Court (HC) has disposed of 57,232 pending cases in just 11 working days as part of a special drive to reduce the longstanding backlog.

According to a press release issued by Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam, the cases were cleared by 14 criminal motion benches of the High Court Division since May 7.

Of the total, 50,325 were old criminal miscellaneous cases, reflecting a major push to resolve long-pending matters in the judicial system.

The initiative follows a directive from Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, under which both criminal and writ motion benches have been working to expedite case disposal.

The press release said the drive aims to ensure quicker justice for litigants, reduce the burden of pending cases, and improve overall judicial efficiency.

Officials described the outcome as a significant step towards easing the backlog and strengthening the effectiveness of the judiciary.
