The government has extended the validity period for issuing and renewing licences of private healthcare facilities from one year to two years, aiming to streamline regulatory processes.
The decision applies to private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, dental clinics and medical check-up centres across the country.
An official order signed by Dr Md Nurul Islam, Director of Hospitals and Clinics at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), confirmed that the new rule will take effect from the 2026–27 fiscal year. The move follows directives from the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Authorities have outlined several conditions for obtaining and renewing licences:
Fee Payment: Applicants must pay two years’ licence fees along with VAT in a single submission through the HSM online platform.
Environmental Clearance: New applicants must obtain location or environmental clearance from the Department of Environment.
Narcotics Licence: Facilities using controlled substances must secure a narcotics licence after receiving their primary licence.
Regular Monitoring: Relevant authorities will monitor updated licences and compliance.
In addition, DGHS officials, divisional health directors, civil surgeons and upazila-level health officials will conduct regular inspections. Any irregularities or violations may result in suspension or cancellation of licences.
The government expects the revised policy to reduce administrative burden while ensuring stricter compliance and oversight in the private healthcare sector.
