The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has stepped up security measures across Bangladesh ahead of August 15 to maintain law and order and prevent any form of sabotage.
The elite force has increased intelligence surveillance and deployed personnel in key and sensitive areas to prevent activities by banned organisations, extremist groups and criminals.
The information was disclosed in a special press release issued by the RAB spokesperson on Thursday (August 13).
According to the statement, each RAB battalion has reviewed potential security threats in its area of responsibility and prepared security plans for August 15.
Security measures have been strengthened at identified sensitive locations. Intelligence surveillance has also been intensified over the activities of extremist groups, banned organisations and anti-state or anti-government elements to prevent them from creating any untoward situation during programmes organised by different political parties.
RAB said it would independently carry out security duties while coordinating, when necessary, with the Special Security Force (SSF), local administration, other law enforcement agencies and intelligence organisations.
The force has also strengthened intelligence gathering by deploying area-based sources and informants. Plainclothes intelligence personnel are monitoring routes leading to programme venues, while information is being collected on suspicious individuals and people linked to banned organisations.
Measures to Prevent Untoward Incidents
RAB said surveillance has been increased and personnel deployed at political programme venues and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incident.
Special precautions have also been taken to prevent members of banned organisations, criminals or extremist groups from infiltrating programme venues and creating disorder.
The statement said necessary security and preventive measures have been taken to prevent sabotage and other unlawful activities involving suspicious individuals and banned organisations.
Meanwhile, cyber patrolling has been intensified to curb rumours and misinformation on social media. RAB warned that immediate action would be taken against anyone attempting to create disorder through misleading posts, comments or images.
The RAB Bomb Disposal Unit has also been kept on standby to respond swiftly if explosives or suspected explosive devices are found anywhere.
RAB said it remains committed to ensuring public safety, identifying and preventing crimes, and bringing offenders to justice during the August 15 programmes.
The force urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately inform the nearest law enforcement agency if they notice any suspicious person, object or activity.
