Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday visited the graves of his father, former president Ziaur Rahman, and mother, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, and offered prayers for their souls.
He visited their graves at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, following the presidential election. BNP leaders were also present.
Earlier in the day, BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected the country’s 23rd president in a parliamentary vote held after nearly 35 years. He secured 255 votes against 88 votes received by opposition alliance candidate Oli Ahmed.
