Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir entered Bangabhaban for the first time to begin his official duties on Sunday (August 23), where he received a guard of honour.
He arrived at Bangabhaban at around 11am from his residence on Minto Road in the capital. A smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment presented him with the guard of honour, the President’s Press Wing confirmed.
Mirza Fakhrul was elected president through a direct vote in Parliament on August 20, after a gap of 35 years. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin declared him elected after the votes were counted.
The following day, he took oath as the newly elected president. On Saturday, he paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial, marking the beginning of his official engagements as president.
His arrival at Bangabhaban on Sunday marked the start of his regular official duties as the country’s president.
