Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will visit Thakurgaon on a two-day trip on August 30 and 31.
The president will leave for Thakurgaon on August 30 and return to Dhaka on August 31. Relevant authorities have been instructed to make necessary arrangements for administration, accommodation and transportation ahead of his visit.
The protocol wing of Bangabhaban sent a letter to the concerned authorities on Monday (August 24), informing them of the president’s scheduled visit.
The letter requested the authorities to make necessary administrative, accommodation and transportation arrangements for the president and his entourage. A detailed itinerary and an approved list of accompanying officials will be sent later, it said.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the BNP-nominated candidate, won the presidential election held in Parliament on August 20 with 255 votes. His victory marked the first presidential election in Parliament in 35 years to produce a winner through a contested vote.
Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance, received 88 votes.
The following day, Friday (August 21), Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as the country’s 23rd president at the historic Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
The Thakurgaon visit will be among his first visits to a district since assuming office.
