President’s Thakurgaon visit postponed

25 August 2026 19:13 Updated: 25 August 2026 19:13

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s scheduled visit to his home district of Thakurgaon has been postponed for unavoidable reasons, officials said on Tuesday.

The president was scheduled to visit Thakurgaon on August 30 and 31, marking his first visit to the district since assuming office.

Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Rafiqul Haque confirmed the postponement.

He said a new schedule for the president’s visit may be announced within the next one or two days.

The district administration had already begun preparations for the visit, including arrangements for accommodation, transportation and other administrative matters.

Earlier, the Protocol Wing of the President’s Office had informed the district administration that the president would visit Thakurgaon for a two-day programme and return to Dhaka on August 31.

The postponement means the president’s first official visit to his home district will not take place as originally scheduled.
