At least 15–20 students have fallen ill after eating eggs served under the school feeding programme at a government primary school in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon.
The incident occurred around noon on Thursday at Maharajpur Government Primary School in the Palashbari area.
The affected students, from Classes Three to Five, reportedly developed rashes and itching shortly after eating the eggs provided as part of the midday meal. They were subsequently admitted to Baliadangi Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Md Rafiqul Haque confirmed the incident, saying the students had received medical care at the hospital.
“Doctors have said there is no reason to panic, and the students are currently in good health,” he said.
The incident comes just days after 34 students from three primary schools in Baliadangi were hospitalised with stomach pain and vomiting after consuming milk served under the same programme on September 21.
Food samples from the schools involved in both incidents have been collected and sent to Dhaka for laboratory testing.
The actual cause of the students’ illnesses will be known once the test reports are available, the deputy commissioner said.
He added that almost all of the 34 students affected in the earlier incident had recovered and returned home. Only one student remains hospitalised, and doctors expect the child to recover soon.
The deputy commissioner also said he had spoken with teachers and parents at the schools and urged them not to panic.
