Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Enamul Haque has died at the age of 88.
He passed away at a hospital in Dhaka around 5:30am on Sunday, according to a message from the Police Headquarters.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zuhr prayers at Rajarbagh, the message said.
Enamul Haque served as IGP from October 1991 to July 1992. He later served as a member of the Law Commission from 2004 to 2007.
During his career, he also served as Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy.
He was married to writer Anamika Haque Lily. The couple had one daughter and two sons.
Enamul Haque, who hailed from Godagari in Rajshahi, was the uncle of Rehan Asif Asad, who currently serves as the Prime Minister’s adviser on ICT affairs.
His brother, Barrister Aminul Haque, served as Post and Telecommunications Minister in the Khaleda Zia government in 2001. Another brother, Asaduzzaman—the father of Asad—served as chairman of the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority.
