The health care sector has been driving job growth in recent years, and that’s expected to continue as America’s population gets older.

Six of the 10 fastest-growing jobs over the next decade are health care-related, according to new Labor Department projections released Thursday.

That won’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s been following the monthly jobs reports, but the scale of health care’s dominance is striking.

The private health care and social assistance sector is expected to add more jobs than any other, about 2.2 million through 2035, accounting for 37% of all new jobs.

To put that in perspective, that’s roughly double the 1.1 million new jobs projected across construction, manufacturing and hotels and restaurants.

Health care’s strong job growth is expected to stem from both the aging population and the increasing prevalence of chronic health conditions like heart disease and cancer, the Labor Department said.

Nurse practitioners top the list, with employment projected to grow 41% by 2035, or nearly 138,000 new jobs. Occupational therapy assistants and psychiatric technicians are also expected to see much faster job growth, about 22%, compared to the 3.5% projected increase for total employment.

Outside of health care, the rise of AI is expected to drive demand for data scientists and computer researchers, but growing electricity needs are also projected to boost blue-collar jobs in energy infrastructure. Source NewsNation.
