With a commitment to uniting journalists from Magura working in Dhaka, strengthening mutual cooperation and contributing to their professional development, the Magura Journalists Forum Dhaka has officially made its debut.
In the forum’s first committee, Shahinur Islam of Channel i has been appointed president, Robiul Islam Rabbi of ATN News general secretary, and Hasanuzzaman Sumon, editor of Weekly 21, organizing secretary.
The forum was formally launched at a discussion and inauguration ceremony held at the RAOWA Club in the capital on Saturday (August 29).
The event was chaired by Abu Saleh, an Ekushey Padak and Bangla Academy Award-winning rhymester and journalist.
Among those who spoke at the event were Jahidul Islam Rony, Deputy Press Secretary (Press-1) to the Prime Minister; Shafiqul Alam, former Press Secretary to the interim government; senior journalist Shahiduzzaman Mohan; veteran journalist Abdullah Wazed; S M Akash, Chief News Editor of Deepto Television; Bashir Hossain Mia, a permanent member of the National Press Club; senior journalist Syed Mazharul Parvez; Badiuzzaman, senior journalist at Kaler Kantho; Pabitra Kundu, Head of Sports at ATN News; Matiur Rahman Tuku, freedom fighter and veteran journalist; and Rustam Mallik, special correspondent of Dainik Muktokhobor, among others.
During the event, senior journalist Zahid Rahman announced the newly formed committee with the consent of the forum’s advisory council.
Speakers at the launching ceremony said the Magura Journalists Forum Dhaka would play an important role in bringing together journalists from Magura and creating a united platform for them in Dhaka. With guidance and advice from senior members of the organization, journalists from Magura working in the capital would support one another in enhancing professional skills, promoting mutual cooperation and advancing their welfare.
They expressed hope that the organization would strengthen communication, fraternity and goodwill among Magura-based journalists working in Dhaka while contributing to their professional excellence.
The forum will also work to highlight Magura’s history, heritage, potential and development initiatives at the national level, the speakers said.
They further said the Magura Journalists Forum Dhaka would develop into a strong and united platform through professional development, skill enhancement and mutual cooperation among journalists. Alongside protecting the interests and welfare of journalists, one of the organization’s key objectives would be to properly highlight the problems, prospects, aspirations and development issues of the people of Magura in the national media.
The speakers expressed their expectation that, through unity, professionalism and responsible journalism, the members would establish a distinct position for themselves in the media sector. At the same time, the organization would play a more effective role in promoting Magura’s development, progress and positive image in the future.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by dinner.
It was also announced that the newly formed committee would constitute a full-fledged committee within one week.
