The government has approved the National Pay Scale 2026, revising the salaries, allowances and other financial benefits of government employees.

The approval was given at a Cabinet meeting on Monday (August 31), with the existing 20-grade structure retained.

Under the new pay scale, starting basic salaries will increase by 100% to 142%, with lower grades receiving larger percentage increases.

Starting basic salaries for grades 1 to 11 will double. The first-grade fixed basic salary will rise from Tk78,000 to Tk156,000, while the 20th-grade starting salary will increase from Tk8,250 to Tk20,000.

For the seventh grade, the salary will increase from Tk29,000-63,410 to Tk58,000-112,800; for the eighth grade from Tk23,000-55,470 to Tk46,000-110,800; for the ninth grade from Tk22,000-53,060 to Tk44,000-105,900; for the 10th grade from Tk16,000-38,640 to Tk32,000-77,300; and for the 11th grade from Tk12,500-30,230 to Tk25,000-60,500.

The starting salary for the 17th grade will rise from Tk9,000 to Tk21,400, an increase of 138%. The 18th-grade salary will increase from Tk8,800 to Tk21,000, or 139%, while the 19th-grade starting salary will rise from Tk8,500 to Tk20,500, representing a 141% increase.

The 20th grade will receive the highest increase, with the starting basic salary rising from Tk8,250 to Tk20,000, a 142% increase.

According to the Finance Ministry, the revised pay scale has been formulated to make the salary structure more rational and up to date while taking into account the government’s financial capacity, inflation, cost of living and the overall economic situation.

The new pay scale will be implemented in phases, with the government seeking to prioritise lower-income employees while managing its financial implications and potential impact on inflation.
