Thakurgaon is all set to welcome the country’s highest constitutional office-holder as President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who will visit his birthplace for the first time since assuming office.
The two-day historic visit, scheduled for September 6 and 7, has sparked a festive atmosphere across the district, with local residents preparing to welcome their distinguished son.
The city’s main roads, traffic islands and important buildings have been given fresh coats of paint, while surrounding areas have been cleaned and beautified. Preparations are also underway for a civic reception organised by members of civil society and people from all walks of life.
A visit to Chourasta, the bus stand and College Road areas on Friday found the beautification work nearly complete. Road dividers were being repainted, while roadside areas were being cleaned.
Various initiatives are also underway to make important roads and public facilities more attractive ahead of the President’s arrival.
Enthusiasm was visible among both officials involved in the preparations and ordinary residents.
At the large field of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School, workers were putting the finishing touches to a stage for a grand civic reception. Organised under the banner of the local civil society, preparations are continuing around the clock to give the President a colourful and warm welcome.
