Bilateral goods import and export through Dinajpur’s Hili land port resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended for five days due to a strike by Indian traders.
The port resumed normal operations in the morning after traders in Hili, India, withdrew their strike following a meeting with the local administration.
The reopening brought renewed activity among workers at the port.
The Indian Customs Clearing Agents Association informed Bangladeshi traders of the decision in a letter issued on Friday afternoon.
Hili Import-Exporters Group General Secretary Nazmul Haque said Indian traders had announced an indefinite suspension of trade from August 30 to press several demands. They later withdrew the strike after meeting with the administration on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Hili Immigration Checkpost Officer-in-Charge Md Zakaria said passenger movement through the checkpoint had remained normal despite the suspension of goods trade.
