Police have seized drugs worth an estimated Tk3 crore and recovered firearms in Daudkandi of Cumilla over the past two months, arresting 286 people in various cases.

Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sajedul Islam confirmed the information on Sunday (6 September).

According to the OC, police recovered 124,966 yaba tablets, 727.4kg of cannabis, 1,575 bottles of Phensedyl, 1,201 bottles of cough syrup and six bottles of Botka during the period.

The seized drugs are estimated to be worth around Tk3 crore, he said.

Police also recovered two foreign-made pistols and five rounds of ammunition during the operations.

Of those arrested, 58 were detained in drug-related cases, 94 under arrest warrants, 56 in robbery cases and 28 on charges related to mugging and theft. Another 75 people were arrested in other cases, taking the total to 286.

The OC said Daudkandi is strategically important because of its location along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway and the Meghna and Gomti rivers.

“Under the direction of the superintendent of police, we are continuing operations to maintain law and order and recover drugs and firearms,” he said.

“Operations against drug trafficking, arms, robbery, mugging, theft and other crimes will continue,” he added.
