Depositors of Sammilito Islami Bank withdrew Tk327 crore on Tuesday, taking total withdrawals to around Tk581 crore in the bank’s first two days of operation.
A total of 7,896 customers withdrew money on the second day, compared with 5,532 customers who withdrew around Tk254 crore on the first day.
The actual withdrawals remained well below the bank’s projected demand of Tk2,345 crore for the two days. Customers were expected to withdraw Tk1,329 crore on the first day and Tk1,016 crore on the second.
So far, depositors have withdrawn only about 25% of the projected amount, leaving nearly Tk1,764 crore of the expected two-day demand untouched.
The figures suggest that the anticipated rush on the newly formed bank has yet to materialise, giving Sammilito Islami Bank some breathing room as it works to restore depositor confidence following months of liquidity stress.
