Two people have been arrested for allegedly using forged documents and signatures to remove a cargo-laden container from Chattogram Port.

The suspects were identified as Md Morshed Alam, 31, of Uttar Kaigram in Patiya, and Md Saidur Rahman, 51, of Nazirpur in Pirojpur.

According to police, the suspects and their accomplices allegedly carried out the fraud at the FCL section of the Terminal Manager’s Office at around 6:07pm on August 11. They allegedly forged documents and signatures and used copies of on-date and on-chassis assignments as genuine documents.

Using the forged papers, they allegedly managed to take a container carrying goods out through Gate No. 1 of Chattogram Port.

A case has been filed with Bandar Police Station over the incident.

Bandar Police Station OC Md Abdur Rahim said the two were arrested in front of the Terminal Manager’s Office with assistance from the Chattogram Port Authority.

Police said the arrested suspects confessed to removing the container with the help of unidentified accomplices by forging documents and signatures and bypassing the port’s security procedures.

Investigators are continuing efforts to identify and arrest others involved in the incident.
