Police have arrested four people in connection with an alleged extortion attempt and shooting attack in the capital’s Dakshinkhan area.
The arrests were made during an operation in South Azampur on Wednesday (Sept 9), said Md Foyemuddin, officer-in-charge of Dakshinkhan Police Station.
The arrestees were identified as Saju Majumdar, 28, Antar Rahman Anu, 22, Parvez, 22, and Babu Sentu, 25.
According to police, several people intercepted Shahin, 28, on a road under construction in the Azampur area of Muktijoddha Road on September 4 and demanded money. When he refused, they allegedly assaulted him and later shot at him in an attempt to kill him before fleeing the scene.
A case was filed with Dakshinkhan Police Station following the incident.
Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and used technology-assisted investigation to identify the suspects. Saju, Antar and Parvez were later arrested in separate operations in Bhaluka of Mymensingh and Islampur of Jamalpur.
During interrogation, the three suspects allegedly provided information about the weapon used in the attack.
Acting on the information, police raided a fourth-floor flat of a four-storey building in South Azampur on Wednesday. A black crossbody bag was recovered from the bedroom of tenant Babu Sentu.
Police said the bag contained a foreign-made pistol, two live bullets and a magazine.
An arms case has been filed against the four arrested individuals, and they were subsequently sent to court, the OC said.
