Speaking out against and condemning any attack on the holy city of Makkah is a moral and religious duty, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman said on Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, he said Makkah is revered because it is home to the Holy Kaaba and is considered the holiest place in the world.

“Any attack on the holy city of Makkah must be met with strong opposition and condemnation. It is our moral and religious duty,” he said.

“I strongly condemn this incident. Whether the attackers are Houthis or anyone else, such attacks are in no way acceptable,” Shafiqur Rahman said.
