Google is set to transform the Gmail experience with the introduction of “Gemini Live,” an AI-powered feature that will allow users to find emails and information using natural conversation instead of traditional keyword searches.
Currently being tested on Android and iOS, the feature was first announced at Google’s annual I/O developer conference earlier this year.
Once rolled out, Gemini Live will act as an intelligent assistant within Gmail, helping users navigate crowded inboxes more efficiently.
The new system offers two key features. The first, “Gmail Live,” enables voice-based interaction, allowing users to speak naturally to retrieve information.
The second, “Ask Gmail,” lets users type queries in everyday language, which Gemini then analyses to extract relevant details from emails.
With Gemini Live, users will no longer need to rely heavily on specific keywords, sender names or subject lines to locate messages.
Instead, they can simply ask questions, and the AI will search, interpret and present the results.
The feature will be accessible directly from Gmail’s search bar. Tapping the search field will activate “Ask Gmail,” while a dedicated Gemini Live icon will launch the voice-based assistant.
Inside Gmail Live, users will see a familiar conversational interface, complete with suggested prompts.
Gemini will respond both in text and voice, and will also display the source emails used to generate the answers.
Google said Gemini Live will be rolled out gradually to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra services.
