Bangladesh is bringing its marriage and divorce registration system under a digital platform to help prevent multiple marriages through concealment of information and curb child marriage, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said.
He made the remarks on Saturday (October 3) at a 10-day residential training programme for Nikah registrars at the BRAC Learning Centre in Niketan, Dhaka. The programme focuses on using software for online marriage and divorce registration.
The minister said information from the online marriage registration system would gradually be linked to the central servers of the National Identity Card, birth registration and passport databases.
He said all qazis across the country would be trained in phases to bring them under the digital registration system.
Asaduzzaman also said lottery-based postings for sub-registrars in Dhaka would be introduced soon to break their long-standing influence.
