DYD cancels recruitment exam, candidates block roads

DHAKA: The Department of Youth Development (DYD) has suspended the recruitment examination for the post of Assistant Upazila Youth Development Officer in Dhaka over allegations of a question paper leak. The decision was made around 11am on Saturday, just moments before the examination was scheduled to begin.

Protesting the decision to suspend the examination at the last moment, the candidates took to the streets and blocked Manik Mia Avenue and Sat Masjid Road in the capital.

The engraged job seekers enfored blockades on Sat Masjid Road around 11:15am and on Manik Mia Avenue around 11:30am.

They alleged that that the examination had been cancelled about a minute before it was due to begin. The candidates also said they had heard that the question paper had been leaked.

One of the protesting candidate told the media that the invigilators announced the cancellation while distributing the question papers, citing allegations of a leak.

Allegations of a possible question paper leak had also spread on social media several hours before the examination was scheduled to begin.

The recruitment examination for the 11th-grade post of Assistant Upazila Youth Development Officer was scheduled to begin at 11am on Saturday.

The examination, held for 242 posts, was supposed to take place at around 100 centres across the capital.

However, serious allegations of a possible question paper leak emerged on Friday night, with several people posting about the issue on social media.
