A mother in Tangail has appealed to the government to bring her daughter, Sweety Akter, back home after reports that she was executed in Saudi Arabia.

Sweety’s mother, Johura Begum, said the family was desperate to learn the truth about her daughter’s fate.

“I beg the government to return my Sweety to me, alive or dead,” she pleaded.

Sweety, 25, is the youngest of five daughters of Fazal Mia, a day labourer from Nagar Chhawali village in Mirzapur upazila.

Her family said she went to Saudi Arabia around three and a half years ago after her marriage broke down, hoping to support her family financially.

Her father borrowed Tk 150,000 to send her abroad through a broker.

She reportedly sent money home during her first five months in Saudi Arabia before informing her family that she had been detained.

According to reports, Sweety and another Bangladeshi national, Nazrul, were executed on October 14 over alleged immoral activities at a mosque compound in Saudi Arabia.

However, local police and administrative officials said they had yet to confirm whether Sweety was among those executed.

Authorities are verifying the information, while her family says it has received no official confirmation from the government.

The family is anxiously awaiting reliable information about her fate.
