Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 471 people across the capital over the past 24 hours till Saturday morning and filed 49 cases.
DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehdi said the arrests were made during coordinated operations conducted in different police station areas of the city. Authorities also recovered locally made weapons and narcotics during the raids. Legal proceedings against the detainees are currently underway.
According to the DMP, the arrests were made by different divisions of the police. Of them, Ramna Division held 53, Lalbagh Division, 29, Wari Division, 59, Motijheel Division, 69, Tejgaon Division, 78, Mirpur Division, 78, Gulshan Division, 43, Uttara Division, 43, and Detective Branch (DB), 19.
Police said the seized items included 10.11 kg of cannabis, 12,284 yaba tablets, six cans of locally made Hunter beer, a screwdriver, three knives, two machetes, one sickle, one cutter, another knife, one CNG auto-rickshaw, five mobile phones, two televisions, one microwave oven, and Tk 1,550 in cash.
The operations also resulted in the rescue of two victims, police added.
