US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim that he stopped the war between India and Pakistan, expressing disappointment at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize despite what he described as his efforts to promote peace.
Trump made the remarks at an election rally in Florida on Friday (October 23), local time, ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
Trump claimed he played a key role in preventing a war between India and Pakistan in 2025. He said he intervened before border clashes between the two nuclear-armed countries could escalate into a larger conflict. At the time, he threatened to impose tariffs of up to 250 per cent on both countries. He also repeated his claim that he had ended eight “wars”.
“You stopped India and Pakistan. Two nuclear powers, you stopped them. In this case, I used trade. I said, if you do that, you can’t do business with the United States, and you can’t make a lot of money. I’m going to put 250 per cent tariffs on both of you, so you can’t do any business,” Trump said.
He added, “They were very upset, very angry. Then they stopped shooting, and the war was over.”
Trump again voiced his frustration at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his purported diplomatic achievements.
“Did I get the Nobel Prize? No,” he said.
Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for helping halt the armed conflict between India and Pakistan following last year’s deadly Pahalgam terror attack. However, New Delhi has consistently denied that any third party intervened to end the conflict. Source: India Today.
