Chicken and vegetable prices have increased in Khulna markets over the past week, with chicken prices rising by Tk10–15 per kilogram and vegetables by Tk5–10. Fish prices, however, have remained largely unchanged.
The price trend was observed during visits to Mistripara, Gallamari and New Market in the city on Sunday (October 25).
Among vegetables, pumpkins were selling at Tk35–40 per kg, bottle gourds at Tk30–40 each, spinach at Tk15–20 per kg, potatoes at Tk25–30, white eggplants at Tk50–60, okra at Tk40–50, pointed gourds at Tk40, cauliflower at Tk70–80, cucumbers at Tk50–60, radishes at Tk50, papayas at Tk25–30, bitter gourds at Tk70, and beans at Tk140.
Green chillies were selling at Tk120–140 per kg, yardlong beans at Tk70–75, green bananas at Tk25–30 per four, tomatoes at Tk180–200, onions at Tk50–55, ginger at Tk160, garlic at Tk100, olive at Tk50 and carrots at Tk120 per kg.
In the poultry and meat market, broiler chicken was selling at Tk175–180 per kg, cock chicken at Tk235–240 and native chicken at Tk580–600. Beef was priced at Tk750 per kg, while mutton cost Tk1,200.
Fish prices remained stable, with pabda selling at Tk300–320 per kg, rohu at Tk280–300, catla at Tk280–300, tilapia at Tk160–180, pangas at Tk180–200 and farmed koi at Tk200–220.

Fish trader Kutub Mia said feed prices and transportation costs had increased, leaving little room for further price reductions. He said traders made no more than Tk20–30 in profit from selling one kilogram of rohu.
Vegetable seller Raju Sheikh said supplies remained adequate and new vegetables were beginning to arrive in the market. He expected prices to fall further when winter vegetables became more widely available.
Chicken trader Saddam Mollah said poultry prices had remained low for nearly two weeks before rising again, mainly due to higher transportation costs. He saw little chance of prices falling in the immediate future.
Buyer Nasir Hossain said broiler chicken had become Tk10–15 more expensive, while fish prices remained unchanged. He also expressed hope that beef prices would fall.
Another shopper, Maysha Akter, said vegetable prices frequently fluctuated, making it difficult for households to reduce their monthly expenses. Regular market monitoring could help keep prices affordable, she added.
