Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan on Sunday inaugurated the Bangladesh Navy’s “Tree Plantation Campaign-2026” by planting a sapling at Naval Headquarters in Dhaka.
The initiative is part of the government’s nationwide programme to plant 25 crore trees over the next five years under the slogan, “Let’s decorate the country through tree plantation, Bangladesh first,” according to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
A special prayer was offered following the inauguration, seeking the success of the campaign.
The event was attended by the Principal Staff Officer at Naval Headquarters, commanders of various naval areas, along with senior military and civilian officials and sailors.
The ISPR said the Bangladesh Navy has launched tree plantation programmes at all its bases, establishments and coastal installations across the country in support of the national afforestation drive.
Addressing the programme, the Navy Chief urged all personnel to actively participate in planting trees from their respective workplaces to ensure the campaign’s success.
He expressed hope that the initiative would help build a safe, livable and environmentally sustainable Bangladesh for future generations by maintaining a balance between development and nature.
Highlighting the importance of afforestation in tackling climate change, Admiral Nazmul Hassan said large-scale tree plantation would contribute to creating a greener, climate-resilient and environment-friendly country.
He also emphasised expanding plantation efforts in coastal areas to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters and preserve ecological balance.
As part of the campaign, the Navy is planting fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal trees at its bases, coastal establishments and adjoining areas nationwide.
