Bangladesh must invest in artificial intelligence (AI), strengthen digital infrastructure, and ensure digital sovereignty to remain competitive in the evolving global economy, experts said at a discussion in the capital.
Speaking at an event titled “AI Future for Bangladesh: Challenges and Prospects,” they highlighted the country’s strong potential to leverage AI for sustainable economic growth, driven by its young workforce, expanding digital ecosystem, and ongoing policy reforms.
However, the speakers cautioned that the rapid rise of AI also brings significant challenges, including concerns over data privacy, intellectual property rights, surveillance risks, and the potential erosion of human creativity and critical thinking.
They stressed the need to develop a skilled AI workforce and integrate AI technologies into key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and industry.
Transforming Bangladesh’s ICT outsourcing sector into a knowledge-based AI services industry was also identified as a priority to enhance its position in global value chains.
The experts further emphasized building a robust national AI ecosystem grounded in research, innovation, digital infrastructure, and international collaboration.
They noted that countries investing strategically in AI today will be best positioned to lead in the future global economy.
