The Bangladesh government has extended by another six months a special facility allowing Bangladeshi citizens living abroad to correct information in their passports and apply for new or re-issued passports based on the updated details.
Under the new decision, the facility will remain in force until December 31, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Security Services Division on Tuesday.
The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Nuruzzaman, said the extension was approved in the public interest to ensure uninterrupted passport services for Bangladeshi expatriates.
The measure allows overseas Bangladeshis who need to correct information such as their name, date of birth, parents’ names or other personal details in their passports to apply for a new passport or passport re-issuance using the corrected information within the extended deadline.
The ministry said the original order, issued on July 8, 2025, was valid until June 30, 2026. The latest decision extends the validity of the special provision by six months, through the end of this year.
The notification takes immediate effect, and all relevant authorities have been instructed to implement the decision. Copies of the order have been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Department of Immigration and Passports, all Bangladesh missions abroad, and other concerned government offices.
Officials said the extension will benefit many expatriate Bangladeshis who were unable to apply for passport information corrections before the previous deadline. The additional time is expected to make passport services more accessible and help overseas citizens complete travel, legal and other administrative procedures using updated passport information.
