Veteran actor Nana Patekar dies

Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.

Patekar was reportedly found unconscious at his home and was taken to Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula.

Doctors attempted to revive him with continuous CPR for around 45 minutes, but he could not be saved. He was declared dead at around 5:20am, according to Dr Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital.

A medico-legal case has been registered and a post-mortem examination will be conducted, doctors said.

Born Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar was one of the most acclaimed actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema.

He made his film debut with Gaman in 1978 and went on to deliver memorable performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Khamoshi: The Musical, Ab Tak Chhappan and Welcome.

He received three National Film Awards and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts.
