MPs’ meeting called for Aug 20 to elect next President

A meeting of Members of Parliament (MPs) has been scheduled for 2:00pm on August 20 to elect the country’s next president.

Chief Election Commissioner and Presidential Election-2026 Returning Officer A M M Nasir Uddin issued a notice to this effect on Tuesday.

The meeting was convened under Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, following consultation with the Speakership.

According to the notice, members of Parliament will meet at 2:00pm on Thursday, August 20, in the Parliament Chamber of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, for the presidential election.

The Election Commission Secretariat disclosed the information in a notification signed by its Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

The notification said the meeting had been called for polling in accordance with the schedule announced by the Election Commission Secretariat on August 6.
