Bangladesh is open for business and the government is committed to creating a more investment-friendly environment, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman told leading US business leaders and investors in New York.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting hosted by JPMorgan at its Manhattan headquarters on Friday, the prime minister urged Wall Street institutions to invest in Bangladesh and build long-term partnerships.
“Bangladesh is open for business,” Tarique said, stressing that investment requires confidence, predictability and an environment conducive to growth.
He highlighted Bangladesh’s population of more than 180 million, young workforce, growing market and strategic geographical location as major strengths.
While the country is widely known as a major manufacturing and ready-made garment hub, he said there are significant investment opportunities in energy, infrastructure, logistics, technology, digital services, climate finance, manufacturing, agriculture and healthcare.
The government aims to build a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and turn Bangladesh into a globally connected hub for manufacturing, investment and services, he said.
Tarique said the government is working to simplify regulations, strengthen investor protection, improve tax and VAT administration, facilitate profit repatriation and develop infrastructure to make Bangladesh easier, more stable and reliable for investors.
He also said the government wants to deepen economic ties with the United States, with the broader goals of attracting more investment, expanding trade, creating jobs and increasing technology cooperation.
The prime minister urged investors to invest with confidence and establish long-term operations in Bangladesh, assuring them that the government was ready to listen to their concerns and remove obstacles where possible.
